Welcome to Honeyberry Acres, one of Kelowna's newest certified organic urban farms.
Founded in 2016 by Ross and Lana Nunweiler and purchased on July 2021 by Isaac and Ruman Oslund, Honeyberry Acres specializes in growing Haskap/Honeyberries. They also grow a variety of other crops, including Blueberries, Raspberries, Garlic and sweet Walla Walla Onions.
The Nunweiler's honed their organic skills in Saskatchewan, as the past owners of an organic flour mill for 30 years before bringing their talents to the sunny Okanagan. When they first tasted the sweet and tangy fruit of the honeyberry bush, they knew this was the perfect berry to grow on their farm. Being healthy and flavourful, it was a perfect fit.
The top picture on the right is our 'north area' being prepped for planting September 2016. The second picture shows our 'east area' being prepped and planted September 2017. The third picture shows our 'east area' planting completed September 2016. The last picture shows our 'west area', planted September 2017 and the sheep fescue growing in nicely between the rows.
What can we say. We love working outside and growing healthy food. Besides Honeyberries, Blueberries and Raspberries we have a large organic vegetable garden. Future plans are to possibly offer garlic, Walla Walla Onions and herbs for sale. Who knows where else this farm will take us. There are so many possibilities as we research and grow more items each year.
